Yes, i know this might be boring, but i find microwave ovens quite fascinating, essential, pretty much every-day use, but still hazardous.
So, i got recently, today in fact, one of these beasts, free as it is broken somehow. it stays on only couple of seconds when trying to heat something. I have no clue, or, i must say, little interest to attempt repair this, as it probadly costs pretty much, and it's pretty dangerous business playing with devil with these things.....but, i did salvage something useful, but little forewords first
INTRO
Seems to be basic microwave oven, modern led's for time, as well as some quick-use functions, and adjustable power setting. Also, it has turning dish which can be turned on/off when necessary.
TEARDOWN
It is held together with torx-screws which has metal tap in center, don't know what those called correctly.
When case is opened, anatomy is revealed. At first my eye caught HV transformer, which is pretty big, along big-gauge windings. voltages are 230-240v primary/2400v secondary
Then, i saw perhaps the most annoying thing in the terms of safety, HV capacitor, which in this case 1uf/2100v, which i discharged right away, first plugged other wire out from it. Seems it was empty already, but you never know....Back to business. magnetron is in middle, and main control board is, well, up front. Door is monitored by micro switches, semi-transparent. The mains cord is connected to some cind of LC filter, along with fuse. Also, there's fuse in main control board. Dish-turner is controlled by slowly-turning motor, 3 RPM, pretty slow, but why hurry anyway?. Also, there was of course light which lits up when door is opened, and it was dirty as what.
system cooling was handled by fan, run by mains powered motor, i hope it works.
AFTERWORDS
well, this was bit of smallish post, but i found it my liking. And, this all was free, well, except the work for hauling....and those who wonders, no i surely don't use magnetron without case, don't want to feel like that cat.....for that reason, i cutted the leads short, just in case. it looks cool as decoration thought. Trasfromer may see some use, first i need to figure out what....no one buys that, that's pretty sure.it's not a toy either :D.
thanks for reading :)
