I need a one way diode to use in a 12 VDC automotive application to prevent back-flow on a reversing polarity 12 V-5 amp load actuator, the actuator runs to a limit switch & stops, reversing the polarity runs the motor in reverse until limit switch stops it,,,, what to use?
Purpose intended, is to use radiator water temperature to open and close an air intake door , the plan is to use these controllers but I think I need 2 diodes in the mix.

Thanks for any help

If your forward current is 5 Amp you want a higher rated diode than 5 Amp. A Google of 10 Amp silicon diode will get you a few sozen hits so just choose a close supplier. Also you will see numbers for PRV (Peak Reverse Voltage) which in your case really won't matter so don't let numbers like 1,000 volts scare you. :)

Below is an example of using limit switches with a motor reversing circuit:

The upper portion is likely what you want. You do want 10 amp diodes ad the 1N4004 is only a 1.0 amp diode.
