I have a radio control boat that uses 7.2v 2000mah battery
as I have several of these batteries I wish to Not change to 12v
(other issues involved too) for accessories(aux switches) I have an
independent (cheap radio controlled) switch board.
It requires 12v to operate.
so how can I get 12v to my RC/Switchboard and not add a 12v
battery to the boat (no room left) and its getting too heavy.
...power consumption is about 300ma for board ...
dont want to dump too much power out of battery as max running time
is desired ...
Just connect 2 of the 7.2v batteries in series to produce 13.4v - if this is too high for your 12v units then either fit two diodes, say 1n4001 or 1n5401, again in series in the 13.4v + rail or fit a 12v 1A regulator - LM7812 etc.

14.4v is a bit marginal for a standard 7812, a "low drop out" version would be OK.
However, I think the OP was trying to avoid any extra batteries.
A boost converter sounds like the way to go, but I have no experience with these things.
yeah I thought of that 2 battery idea
but room is too tight and Id rather not use two at once ...
what is a boost converter? (must re read)
can it be purchased as a done deal and small
????
