Is there an alternate to the 1N5819 diode for use as 'fly-back' diodes in a typical L298 circuit ?

I am having a bit of a trouble getting it here

Any fast recovery diode that can handle the voltage/current/power will work. The important thing to look for is 'fast recovery' when chosing a flyback diode. All diodes have a switching time as the voltage reverses, in a situation involving the voltage created from an inductor suddenly starved of power the voltage/current spike occurs VERY quickly, rectifier diodes would let most of the spike occur, fast recovery diodes are constructed to minimize that as much as possible.

The MR852 has a trr, or reverse recovery time of 100 nsec typical, 200 nsec max for If=1.0 Amp. It is a beast; I've used it before with good results.
