Hello everyone, I'm making a simple 555ic DC motor controller for a 24v motor. My power supply is 24 volts, and I was planning on supplying power to the 555 circuit through a 7815 or a 7812. My question is, if I use the 7815 (at 15 volts of course) do I need to put a heat sink on the 555, or would it be more simple to just use the 7812 and supply 12 volts to the 555. Thanks for your help!

The 15 volts is getting pretty close to the maximum rating of the 555. It doesn't sound like in your application (driving a FET?) you would need a heatsink, but 12 volts would be a safer value. If you are driving a transistor and need high base current that could be another story.

Yeah I'm driving a FET. Even so, I'll take your advice and go with 12 volts. Thanks for your help!
