An R-SPS3010

Hi everyone.

I've got this kinda cheap DC power supply which has been quite decent for the past 4 years.

It's an R-SPS3010.

Only recently did something happened when I disconnected a boost regulator from the terminals powered by this supply. It gave sparks and then the supply was dead.

When I opened it up, I was surprised that the Live terminal of the supply is actually not connected to anything. It seemed to operate only with the Neutral and Earth wire. I don't know what to make of this.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

I would suggest you are mistaken - have you tested which pin goes where using a meter? - visual signs are often confusing on IEC sockets, particularly when they have fuses, lights or switches built-in.

I see. I was looking directly at the male socket's label which says "L". Anyhow, if I'm mistaken, the powering from the mains to the DC has to have at least L and N, right?

So it is either the L and E or, N and E connected only. I'll try to confirm this soon.

Taking "up" and "down" as in your photo, the assembly has the IEC panel-mount plug at the bottom, and either a switch or fuse at the top. The live pin of plug only connects to the metal strip, which carries the power to the switch or fuse, and the red wire goes to the other end of that switch or fuse.

Aren't there three wires in the picture anyway?, yellow looks to be earth, black neutral,and orange live.
