Just as simple as that I need a compiler to compile assembly into hex code to feed into winpic800. if anyone knows of any tutorials in writing assembly then please add a link to that as well as all I have are the microchip datasheets and am new on all this but prefer to go on assembly as it is more efficient and I would rather not learn half a dozen languages when i know assembly is best. I am going to use the 16F88
Thanks
Simon

With 240+ postings you are not new to the forum.

Have you looked at the STICKY before asking the question?

I am not new to electronics but worse off than a novice with pics and am having trouble getting all the stages together. assembly-hex file-programmmer software-programmer-pic I have still to build the hardware programmer as am waiting for the 74ls05 yea u got it here in italy you havve to order one of those simple parts so am trying to get ahead on the soft part. I have read the sticky and there are no references to an assembly compiler everone seems to be raging about basic and C but as I an a novice in this I choose to go assembly straight off as I will end up there in the end.

4a. What compiling/assembling Software to use

Download free MPLAB (Developing enviroment) from www.Microchip.com. It has an integrated development environment with editor and simulator. When you are familiar with PICs, you can then choose many other compilers to generate the object file.
