audio player circuit

Hi,
I am hoping to make a little gadget that will great people with a preloaded audio. The sound file will be 5 seconds long. I wonder if it is ok to read the data from a memory, feed it to a DAC and through a power amplifier? Anyone can give me some schematics for reference? Thanks.

i haven't anything like you are talking about, but i have used the chipcorders from isd. they are cheap and they will do what you want them to do

You can buy inexpensive picture frames that play a recording.
