building/designing a mp3 player using fpga

hi folks
hows it going
just wondering if anyone has ever built their own mp3 player?
this ones not for fun but for uni, have to use an FPGA in it
big daunting any tips

I'd start by researching very VERY heavily into how a Mp3 decoder works hardware wise.

but time is not my friend right now and otherwise id love to research properly

im working from old XILINX plans, and plan to replace the CPLD with the FPGA
the decoder will be an off the shelf.
