Of course you need to know which pin is what, but what about max voltage, current and power ratings? Current gain? Maybe its performance at an RF frequency.
All these specs are equally important and can be found with a quick search for the datasheet in Google.
You'll want the part number for the transistor for that google to work. It would also be helpful to know the manufacturer. Are you sure you know both of those?
