Can't Erase or Program 89S52

I got a programmer from my college its from Frontline electronics. I can read the flash contents of 89S52 but not able to erase/ write... it fails all the time..

Seeing as it does Phillips AND Atmel... Is there a device configuration setting? They usually have to have different hardware!!

Its a Atmel programmer ......and I'm using 89S52 but still no success......

Yes I know its an Atmel programmer... But THAT particular one programs Phillips chips as well.... They are completely different devices when programming.... I thought there MUST be a software configuration...

I can't figure out whats wrong ......our college had two programmers but the same problem persists...

is it showing some kind of error message or is it getting stuck?

Yes It says "error at line 1" and quits programming........

Can you give me a screen shot..... Are you sure its not the assembler that's failing...
