Capacitors

hi everyone,
i am new member here and also a beginner in electronics.
I have a small doubt abt capacitors,there are different types of capacitors like the electrolytic capacitor,ceramic one.Can one be used in place of the others,like an electrolytic capacitor in place of a ceramic one if they have the same value.Is there any difference between them. i know it may seem a little bit silly question but i need to know.
