Christmas lighting software

My wife wants me to start working now on all this Xmas lighting for next year and she say one on HGT that a lady was using LED and circuit boards. Ok As you can tell I am not real Electronic savyed but can catch on fast. I am looking for some help on some circuit or software help on using for changing light

Whats your experience in electronics?

I guess micro's is out of the question - perhaps a relay I/O board for your computer might be easier..

It connects into a PCI slot or your Parallel Port on your PC, and most come with some software to help automate things, and give examples of how to program with Visual Basic/C..
