Connecting to obsolete SMS connector

As far as I can find out, SMS has the same basic geometry and main dimensions as SMA/SMB/MCX but differs in how it engages - I think it doesn't actually lock. But it seems they can't be bought any more. I just want to make an occasional connection to one of these, it doesn't even need to be a good connection.
Any suggestions what I can substitute for the proper connector? SMB seems the most likely choice but I don't want to get one if it isn't going to even go on.
NB this doesn't refer to the brand SMS!
Actually I find IMS makes them. Can't find where to get one though.

you must have the wrong nomenclature, as there are no "SMS" connectors. however, look on this page: https://www.fairviewmicrowave.com/rf-connectors-category.aspx

and see if you can find something that matches.

KISS - Not having it to hand I'm not sure. I tried with what I had and got a kind of "halfway there" situation. Possibly I have something else to try since then.
Unclejed - they really do exist! **broken link removed** RS have discontinued them in the UK though, and it's sufficiently hard to find info about them that I think they are almost obsolete.
They are used for the connection to monitor the trigger point of the very old frequency counter I got a while ago (it says in the manual that SMS is what they are). The trigger circuit isn't working properly so I just want to connect for fault finding. So its really down to finding something that will just stay connected when it's moved about.

There is an Italian company making SMS in addition to the ones from IMS, but don't know how to get those either. Name of the company is Genex. There are two companies shown to be IMS reps in UK, one is CCS (Connectors Cables Specialists Ltd), +44 1279 639251 sales@ccsukltd.co.uk or you can try Flint Distribution Ltd +44 1530510333 enq@flint.co.uk. Perhaps you should try giving these a call to see who might have stock of SMS series.

If you own the counter, perhaps it might not be such a bad idea to permanently change out that connector for another series

ITT-Cannon also make them, plus a few others.

Let me check tomorrow but i think i have some of those!! From way back when we used to buy bankrupt stock and factory clear outs.

I'd found the ITT catalogue previously but again, no source. I think it was an older version gave me the impression it was historical interest only! I'll email those companies and see if I can land a sample. Othewise, LG you might save the day!
I can't say I'm convinced it's what the manual says it is though, I can see the shielded central pillar of the female connector but not the outer sleeve. Nice idea Ron, but it pokes through a hole in the front panel so it's pretty restricted what will actually fit there - An SMA type connector nut won't go through.
I haven't been in the shed since first posting so not had chance for a more detailed look.

Ok emailed those companies. CCS don't stock them and Flint was taken over by Avnet Time who don't list them in their parametric search.
