derating % for Potentiometer

I got one 100K POT derated to 99% and one copper wire derated to 94%.

What does it mean ? How can I calculate it ?

Derating is using a part at less then its maximum rating, such as voltage, current, power, etc. For high reliability many devices are derated 50% or more on all their characteristics.
