Determining frequency reception range

I want to build an AM radio for shortwave reception. I have built regular AM broadcast receivers before, but I don't know what to do to determine the frequency reception range. Is it the number of turns of the antenna coil that determines the frequency range the receiver will receive?

In a superhet receiver the tuning range is determined by the frequency range of the local oscillator and the IF frequency.
