DS3231 SC Module

Used these little Modules in a couple of projects which initially work ok, but when run for more than a year find that they do not hold their backup charge/time when the mains drops.

Have others found the same to be true or if there is something that needs to be done with these modules ?

They are handy due to their size as most other boards have a large cell battery etc , though notice Adafruit do their own small DS3231 module, but its sells for an unbeliveable £ 20 + in the UK ! Yes thats just for 1, not several !

Looks like a cheap super capacitor rather than a battery, they generally have a very short life span - years back cheap crappy VCR's started using them, and they regularly failed, stopping the VCR's from working at all (as well as memory backup it was used for power-on reset).
