DSP: What does normaization mean ?

The foll is from a manual on the 21XX ADSP precessors from Analog Devices.

I am confused about the meaning of the highlighted text.

Normalization by itself has many meanings, in DSP & its applications, what does it imply ?

make something or somebody conform: to make something or somebody conform to a standard

I suggest for you my friendm to use encarta dictionary, it's perfect
it could be useful for you!

I am not sure about DSP, I have never had any dealings with it.
In general within electronics, normalisation is comparing something with a reference.

Example:
Set the reference as 2 volts.
Then 1 volt = 0.5 when normalised
3 volt = 1.5 when normalised
1.5 volt = 0.75 when normalised

I thought I made it clear that it was in DSP context

Anyway I think you should normalize yourself to DSP & Electronics

As far as i remember, DSP normalisation of a sequence of input impulses means they are given the same characteristic time distance between each arrival of the next sample OR all converted to a value which makes further processing easier, ie unity.
