using a Hartley oscillator, there is a single tuning capacitor, one side is grounded, and one side goes to the grid/base/gate (depending on whether a vaccum tube, bipolar transistor or FET is used). if the "hot" side of the capacitor is connected to an isolated contact of the wrist strap, your wrist is connected to the oscillator, and lowers the resonant frequency, and either a bandpass filter or a F/V converter can detect the change in frequency.
