External battery charger circuit

Cool cheers. I just wanted confirmation from someone who's far better versed in 'analogue' and power. I'll pick up some P-channel MOSFET's too. After hunting around in datasheets for example circuits...many battery charger IC's use an external FET, guess thats just for efficiency. I probably should have some in my 'parts store' anyway, as I'll need that for a bunch of other things too.
