I am new to the whole break down of electronic devices and am taking apart a radar detector, and am wondering if anyone could tell me which parts are what such as a voltage regulator? I will upload the pic if you can assist me. Thanks.

What does it say on U603, which is in the upper right hand corner? I suspect this is the regulator and that D301 may be the "idiot diode". There may be parts on the other side of the PCB that may be worth looking at too.

What does it say on the big black D shaped part to the left of U603?

What do you want to find it for? Are you hoping to take it out an re-use it?

What do you mean by idiot diode? Whats its purpose? Thanks
It is there to prevent damage when an "idiot" connects the device with the reverse polarity. ;)
The part to the right of U603 is a button
I know. I'm interested in U603 which is the object Andy1845c just described.
On silkscreens, the letter U at the start of an ID refers to an IC. D a diode, C a capacitor, Q a transistor, etc.
