i need to freeze the 4029 when it outputs from q4, i want to lock it so when it outputs from q4 it freezes so it continues to output from q4. i can jam the 555 timer with a negitive pulse which then freezes the 4029 but to to that i have to use a relay or transistor, but i want to jam it with the positive pulse from q4 that way hopefully it would be easier. Basically i'm using it as a timer.
any ideas ?

freezing 4029 count

Connect Q4 to the Carry In/(Clock En/) input (pin 5). When Q4 goes high the counter will stop. You then have to use the Preset Enable (pin 1) to re-enable the counter. PE is an asynchronous input, so it takes precedence over the Clock Enable. PE's equivalent to a clear when you connect the four jam inputs low.
