What is this IC? Is it a CMOS NOR Gate?
If its a 14-pin IC then I think most probably its a NOR gate. Try this datasheet. http://www.fairchildsemi.com/ds/CD/CD4001BC.pdf Or **broken link removed**
This is a standard CMOS A Series quad 2-input NOR.
The difference between this and a 4001BE is that the 4001AE has NO protection diodes on the inputs.
If I remember correctly - the old grey cells are fading - the B series had slower switching due to the protection diodes and that some tried and tested circuits would not work if you used B series chips.
We had to wait a few years while the manufacturers 'improved' the chips - and charged more for the pleasure.
