You could use an LCD display and keyboard to program the sequence in a PIC, then send that via serial to other PIC's to do the actual firing. The programmable unit could also be connectable to a PC, and programmed via that, and be 'field adjustable' using it's own keyboard (or key pad) and display. Essentially building a custom 'laptop' - or perhaps 'handtop'?.
