A healthy processor (socket A) measures 30-60 ohm
when I measure resistance from Vdd to Vss on SMD capacitor
mounted on the processor (with my multimer).
I have a few that measure 0-5 and those are of course malfunctioning.
Now I don't expect to fix them. I only want to try and burn the shorted
out transistors without destroying the whole chip and whatever is still
healthy in it. I am doing this just for hobby cause I know if even one
of those very thin lines on mobo is cut the whole thing doesn't work.
The chip has a short inside. (which is the malfunction)
If I put too much current trough it the whole crystal is gonna burn.
So how do I destroy only the short without other damage. (like blowing a fuse)
Wouldnt you have to pop off the top chip cover to have access to the individual parts? You'd also have to have a diagram of the die to work with. This would only work if the chip did not have a common part of the chip malfunctioning.
What dk is saying is key. You can't just use what's still good with a micro processor, if something prevents it from being used normally, it's done, period; all the rest of those billions of transistors are defunct because of that one that you killed there is no way to do anything about it regardless of what you think.
