how to use spi in pic16f877a to set 7 segment display

hie everyone.im siva.i got a problem here on SPI.i tried to use SPI in
PIC
16F877A and connect it to a 7 segment display to show output, but it
fails.its like sometimes it show and sometime it dont, its like unstable.i
do not know where is it wrong.And i also want to know whether is MCLR*
is
the RESET button for PIC16F877A and how could i enable it.So anyone
mind
help me on how to set up the spi to make it function?...Thanks alot for your giude
