Infrared transmitter receiver array

I am hoping to build an array(mesh) of IR transmitters and receivers. I am starting of with a 3x3 array and I have a few questions and would gladly appreciate all the help.
1. Could you suggest some Tx/Rx circuits? The ones I have tried looking up are very unclear.
2. Can I drive all the circuits from a single power source?
3. What are the major specifications to consider when designing the circuit?

Are you sending data or doing detection ?

I'm not surie about "array" but the simplest ones that I used are 315 Mhz modules, and PT2272/2262 circuits. Google for the datasheet. It works for IR as well.
