jk vs df-flop compact solution question HELPPPPPPPPPPPP

i designed various ccts using jk and d flip flops, and the jk had more complexity to it but resulted in less gates therfore more compact solution. but does this always true?

Usually true, but not always.
 
Build a Johnson Counter out of Ds and JKs. Which has fewer connections?
