Keypad to control a motor

Hi all

I have a 3 x 4 matrixed keypad and hope to design and build a circuit that will change the speed of the motor according to the number selected on the keypad.
1 = very slow
9 = very fast

Any ideas/help would be gratefully recieved

A basic micro controller would do this easily. Matrix keypads are very easy to interface to micro controllers, and can also easily drive an h-bridge to your motor.

It matters a lot if you're speaking of an AC induction motor or some DC motor.
