Hi I currently have a metale halide light hanging over my fish tank and I want to add moonlighting to the tank I was thinking of using 3w Cree LEDs to give enough light but they are very expensive and get my question is as I already have a housing could I not modify it with a smaller heatsink and maybe a couple of fans or completely remove the heatsink and use fans I was think 5 or 6 LEDs the spec is as follows

RRP: $6.00
SKU: XPEROY-L1-0000-00B01
Brand: CREE
Weight: 0.07 Ounces
Wattage: 3w
Max Drive Current: 1000mA
Forward voltage (@ 700 mA): 3.4
Light Intensity: 500mW flux @ 350mA
Dominant Wave Length (max): 450nm-465nm
Viewing angle: 115°-130°
Color: Royal Blue
Star Size: 20mm

Also I would like to make a dimmable driver for it would it be cheaper to make a driver or buy one?

Thanks
Jak
