Looking for a part which works like

I'm looking for a device which works partly like extension chords box. Like the wire/cable should go inside it once I am done using it. I have a lengthy LAN cable which i use to rig to the laptop which I keep moving places around. But, the point is I don't want to use WiFi for some reason. The extension box which come works for power cables, but i need an alternative which works in the same way for LAN cables/Telephone Cable/Any other medium sized wire.

Are you talking about a box with a spring-loaded reel that retracts the cable onto a reel/drum/spool?

Use an old 3D printer filament spool?

Those are pretty good got storing smaller cables.

Thanks for the replies. Spool was what I am looking for, but it should be somewhat semi automatic, or have a enclosure and at least a rotor to retract it back inside the spool/reel/drum.

Right now, I fixed it with a two food containers attaching the backs to each other and finding a temporary spool like thing. Anything on the market is good, I searched online, but it seems to be little costlier for the work it does.

For now, I have fixed it some craft work, a permanent solution to this would be good as long as it is reasonable at cost.

What size cord are you trying to reel in? The large devices as mentioned usually need a commutator so one end stays fixed. It sounded to me like you didn't want to modify the cable or put up with the added electrical noise from a commutator I have seen those devices with small electrical cords. The solution is to have the cable wrapped in opposite direction around two spools. Then you can pull both ends together and the spool stays fixed in the middle. I searched on: "miniature automatic inline electric cord spool."
