One of my hobbies is observing stars and studying new astronomic theories. Based on my own experience of using modern software and hardware in this field I have designed a portable instrument to help students easily and funnily learn astronomic knowledge, such as recognition of constellations and stars on the sky, measurement of distances between earth and stars, and motions of planets and more, which, I'm pretty sure, will be loved by beginning hobbyists once it is available.

An appropriate microcontroller utilizing an accelerometer and a magnetometer is a key part of the device, unfortunately, I do not know much about it, particularly about its hardware. So I ask you join me to finish the project if you like to contribute your experience and knowledge to our students and make our education better.

You do not have to be a expert but basic skill, and most importantly the passion of creating new things.

So, you basically want investors (time = money) in your invention. What is your business plan? What are your credentials? Have you published any of this? How do you envision sharing the profits?

Why not avoid the "collaboration" and investment issues and just post your questions here?

Hey, I've collected, over time, some links that could be "related" to your project. A fair number of links are about antenna rotators, for modifying them to building them from scratch. Some of the designs use an accelerometer. One is actually written in BASIC. One design seems to accommodate everything under the sun and has it's own discussion group about the software.

One reference I did not include was the DiSEQc protocol which is free n=and is used primarily to position satellite dishes. The protocol also includes antenna positioning. One rotator was produced briefly. the Eagle Aspen ROTR100 that used the protocal over Coax for positioning and power. I have this rotor.

There is a thread on ETO about running a 120 VAC synchonous motor (those used in telescopes) at a speed to track. I also provided a design to a co-worker which he built and
and used.

I'm sorry, I didn't directly answer your question.

Hi, John,
Thank you very much for your questions, I'm not sure if I understand them correctly. Below are my answers.

So, you basically want investors (time = money) in your invention.
I would say you are right, I'm looking for people who have interest in the project initialized by me.

What is your business plan?
At this moment what I want is a sample device and then evaluation of it.

What are your credentials?
I will send documents I wrote about the project and references to people who are interested, so that they may get their own conclusion if it is theoretically right and practically realizable.

Have you published any of this?
I am a chemist, published quite a few papers in chemistry journals but never had one in this area, because it is just one of my hobbies.

How do you envision sharing the profits?
Profits are not my goal, and I do not think we can make profits from this device unless it would be very successful and get industrial usage. If in future it would make some I think every one should get an equal share.

Why not avoid the "collaboration" and investment issues and just post your questions here?
As this is not a particular question.

I have an iPAD App that allows me to point the back at the sky using the internal tilt sensors, compass and GPS coordinates and it displays the star map in real time where I am, similar to what your eyes see.

But it does not give distance. Perhaps some mobile device with existing sensors and additional s/w tools might be quicker to develop.

Hola

You actually measure or you just calculate?

Could you elaborate briefly but precisely about the bolded part?

In what units? Km? light years? parsecs?

What is the precision of those calculations?

And on a more generic tone: what could be the interest in knowing that precisely?

Interested.

here's another ..Portable App...Celestia
