hi peeps new to the site, was thinking of making the above some pointers would be very helpfull. i would like to run a 3 or 5 watt , what recomendations for batteries would you recomend for say a 10 hour run time. can you run a lux led strait of a battery? thanks in advance
LEDs need current limiters. Sometimes just a series resistor is used but other times a current regulator circuit is used.
3W and 5W is a lot of heat to carry on your head.
5W at 6V and for 10 hours needs a pretty big 10Ah lead-acid battery.
Two issues if you are going to play around with these larger LEDs:
Drive: You need to control the current to the proper level to run these.
Here is a neat driver module for 3 watt (700ma) LEDs that runs around
78% effeciency. You can drive up to three 3 watt LEDs in series from
a single 12volt battery.

Heatsink: Be sure you research and implement proper heatsinking mounting for these LEDs as they will self destruct if not properly mounted.
