Id like to know what a good MCU to learn on would be. I was previously thinking about going with a PIC, but have to ask about a couple other options. First, the Parallax SX. What are some key differences between a PIC and an SX? I believe I saw a PIC18 rated for 65MHz, and the SX is I think 75MHz, so I dont think clock speed is much of a difference.

I would like this to be low cost. I would also like a decent selection of free software available. Another very important feature Id like is video capabilities.

The propeller I just have to ask about. A tad pricey (like $13), but for an 8 core MCU I cant complain. So what are some reasons not to use a propeller?

Thanks for helping out, looking forward to getting an MCU finally.

I would look at Swordfish BASIC SE for the 18F, as easy to learn as the BASIC Stamps and far faster & more powerful. You only need a programmer like the PICkit2 or my Junebug kit.
