Measuring Vs of jfet

I am trying to calculate 'gm' the transconductance of a particular n channel jfet (2n5485).
My workbook says observe quiescent Vs (voltage at transistor source)

I have attached a crude drawing of my method of measuring Vs. Is this correct to find Vs quiescent?
because i measure 2v and this doesnt seem right to me?
