Never been to Canada so I'm afriad I can't really help you much, but, just curious, why don't you want to purchase via the internet? Or even ask for samples from a company such as microchip or atmel? I generally buy micro's, but many companies provide free samples (I have several projects based on them ).

Most large cities in Canada do have at least a few shops specialized in electronic supplies where you can get various kind of microcontrollers. You can find the businesses on https://www.yellowpages.ca/.
Canada is the second largest country in the world. You want to narrow your location down a bit? Also it would be helpful if you mentioned which microcontroller you were looking for.
