Journey of µp design is unending.. Latest in use core -2 duo intel chip and further its derivatives. Why not think of multi-layer one. Is it possible? My IDEA... Design see-through µp IC ..have different layers of such µp IC over one another.....use different color lazer light sources to activate these layers...Just pour in your design brain.

Well not to try and rain on your brainstorm but most complex ICs already use multilayer construction. In production many 'masks' are used to deposit the various materials layer by layer to make the complete IC. Also a limit to IC density seems to be the heat dissapation limits. Already VCC voltages have migrated from 5 volts down to just over 1 volt in the latest Intel designs. Less voltage = less power consumed = less heat produced. Having more cores stacked vertically would only make the heat removal more difficult.

Brainstorming

oh! goodie!! It is a crystal like materila IC Chip. Hence lazer light source (different colour) can be used to switch over to different layer or several layers can be simultaneously kept active. And speed is SPEED OF LIGHT!!!. VCC will become only micro volt and heat problem doesnt arrise. Hard disc can be replaced with this IC techno. Can you do rain harvesting now ? It is exactly like human-brain the hard disc will start functioning. Network of NERVES.
