multimeter help

I'm simply trying to measure my resistors with a digital YFE YF-3503
but it doesn't seem to be working correctly, I'm not too sure if i am using it right.
If anyone can help me out, that would be great,
Also to start up, the resistor colours are barely readable on them which makes it very difficult to recognise their resistance.

Set the meter to the OHMs scale
Get a known value resistor
Measure it

If this fails consider exchanging the meter for a book

Be sure you don't have a lead plugged into the Amperage slot by accident.
