Which is the nearest preferred value resistor for a required resistance 960ohms?
959ohms or 1000ohms I'm thinking 1000ohms (1K) what do you think? Thank you...
 
That would depend on what precision you require. If tolerance was to be +/- 1% then the only one meeting the criteria is the 959R. If on the other hand, the tolerance required was +/- 5%, then either would do, but the 1K is right at the end of the scale, so again I would go with the 959R.

The nearest 1% standard value to 960 ohms is 953 ohms. 959 is not a standard value.
