Need a Step-Up Regulator circuit

Hey guys and gals,

I'm in need for a circuit to step-up my 2.4v from two NiMH AA's to 5v-6v. I've been searching for DC-DC Converters and V-regs all day, and now I come to you, anyone have this circuit? I need to pull an amp from the batteries, so that's something to take into consideration. I'd like the efficiency to be at least 80%.

Is something like this probable?

EDIT: In other words, what would be a good IC to use?

The LTC1872 data sheet has a typical application circuit which has 3.3 volts input and 5 volts ,1 amp output. A Google search should bring it up.
