Need Help for Blinking LED

hi everyone,

i search over the internet and found this a simple flashing schematic attached.

tools:
1-lm555cn timer
3-Resistor (as shown in the diagram attached)
1-capacitor
1-9volts

i followed the diagram but it won't work.

pls help, what's wrong with the diagram?

Do you have the LED connected backwards.

EDIT: The short lead goes to the minus. The long to plus.

Pin 4 goes to +Ve supply. Otherwise won't work.
