i'm new to electronics and just wanted to know where to start. i know about breadboards but am a little confused

Get an "Electronics experimenter kit", and start with is manual before touching any part. ;)

If the kit is really good, its manual should be superb for starting from zero.

THen maybe start by learning 555 timers and breadboarding them along with LEDs?

start also with learning the basic electrical laws, they might be a bit boring in the beginning but when you fully understand these laws your progress will be much quicker
and it gets more and more intresting.
