Newbie wants some help

Hi,
I am doing my final year project in which i have to automate the electricity meter and then transfer the bill of the meter to the database through GSM .

Kindly help me out to make the project and please tell me that which micro controller i should use in the project.

Usually I recommend more versatile micro controllers such as PICs or AVRs. But since it sounds like you need computer connectivity and you need it soon, and you are a beginner, look into using an arduino.
