NTE990 direct replacements?

Anyone know what IC's are drop-in replacements for the NTE990 audio amp? I'm looking for audio amp circuits I can build around this IC.
 
I believe the LM377 is the same. Be sure to use a fin type heatsink if you intend to get anything near the rated output without distortion.

Ah, I can't get a decent sounding circuit out of this chip...
