Hello!!
More haunted equipment at my home! My home stereo is actually a home theater, an analog VU meter, a car equalizer and a power amp, also automotive. The equalizer, VU and the power amp are feed by an old ATX PSU.
Some minutes ago, all 12V systems failed. The VU meter backlight, wich is feed by 3V, was still glowing.
I though the 12V rail failed, but I was wrong.
I connected a wire from the common ground of all my equipment to the PSU metalic case. Everything started to work.
I have burned a lot of PSU's, overloading the +5 and +12 rails, etc. But there is any common cause for the ground rail to fail? PCB solder is OK!
ps: I realized the 5V rail of my PSU's is not short circuit protected, what a shame!
