PIC programmer

Sirs,
I have a PIC programmer but it can program up to 1K only, its a trial version from the net. I want to make my own, If I program my PIC (in its EPROM mode) by downloading the hex file generated by MPLAB does it mean I can compile source code exceeding 1K? Is there a site about PIC programming protocol?
