If you don't want to program then why are you intested in PICs?
If you're curious about the LM35 just put a 9V battery and LM35 together. You can then just read the voltage out on a multimeter. No programming required. **broken link removed**
It looks like a nice and fun project and it would be easy enough to convert to another PIC device if (qualifier) you had the knowledge and motivation to do so.
Since it seems you just want to build and play with the project, it's probably easier to use the same hardware and software provided by the author. Or, perhaps look for another similar project that uses the PIC devices you have on hand.
