Picaxe Chip and PWM

Well I finally got a ship I can understand...a Picaxe 28X...or a MicroChip PIC16F873A-I/SP modified to be programmed with BASIC. I've been working around with it and am trying to run a motor for a roller coaster launch. I set up the launch rig as it will be for the model. I then tested the motor to see the current at this load. It peaks at 8 amps for a split second and then jumps down to almost 4 amps. I was going to use the NMIH-0050 H-Bridge, capable of 5 A continuous and 6 A max. Will this quick 8 amp spike hurt the h-bridge? Any h-bridge out there better for my application? It has to run forward at full speed, and backwards at low speed...hence PWM will be used.

Yea, been trying that, but there is so much info out there...really blowing my mind. I think I found plans for one I like, hopefully.
