Q of a coil/inductor

Sorry for a very simple almost silly question. I have been looking at oscillators for a sound circuit, I have a simple maths question. When working out the Q of a coil using
Q=XL over R
What does the X stand for?

Question 2. How do you do super/subscript on here, with Latex? I would like to be able to do proper formula on here, but I cant find a sticky on using Latex.
Or is there a better way?
 
The 'X' is the reactance of the inductor at the frequency of operation, usually resonance.

XL= 2 * pi *F * L in ohms.

XC = 1/ [2 * pi * F *C] in ohms
 
Thank you Eric, the way it was written in the book, confused me! reactance seems obvious once its pointed out :sorry::rolleyes:, my maths is taking a while to get up to speed!:facepalm:. Thats better my figures make sense now:cool:.

Thank you for that, I have some other questions to ask in a couple of days, will be alot easier with Latex.
