Question laptop hdd2.5" buy in aliexpress

Used 2.5" HDDs sold on Aliexpress show misleading data, few hours of use and good health within Crystal Disk Info marked real numbers. My question is: what do they change to show these results? Firmware original, real SMART data, any files on the platters? They (Chinese) remove and modify functions of the original firmware such as head parking and power management.

I would never buy a used hard disk - let alone a disk from a random supplier in AliExpress. Please never store any financial info on the computer used with this HD. It's a question I never hope to have to look into.

Check AliExpress. They usually just say, "HDD SATA III" or some other industry standard logo.

SOME drives sold by dodgy sellers - not all sellers - are re-labelled second hand ones, sold as new.
They are often labelled as a different model or make than the actual drive is. That will mean different specifications than what the advertised type / name on the label implies.

Other than the label, they are not modified, just older than claimed.

"All" is a pretty sweeping term and there are a great many resellers on aliexpress, so I would guess, no.

I’ve bought used drives from AliExpress, and they often manipulate the SMART data. They use firmware tools to reset or fake metrics like power-on hours and health percentage. The drives might still work, but they're likely from servers and heavily used before being "refurbished."

I have seen false reports about this supported by videos of fake Flash Memory devices emulating USB HDD drives.The default settings for idle timeout actions and audio reduction power settings are dependent on the installation settings. These is not a nefarious actions but rather user options. There are a lot of critics about Chinese technology ignoring the incredibly lower cost vs expectations discussion may not have grown up when made in Japan meant cheap/poor quality when they invented low cost low power transistor radios and now are the beacon of highest quality in products.
Considering the "normal distribution" of any quantity, China does have a lot more advantages to creating high quality new products as well as scam operations.
